Giving YOU the chance to SPEAK!!

About me....

So, you want to know a little bit more about your new Skype or Zoom English teacher! Well, I've written a short intro and answered some FAQ below. If you have a question which isn't there, I'm always happy to answer, so feel free to email, message or call if you want to ask something.

Hello, I'm Luke....

I am a native English speaking English language teacher from Devon in the South West of England. I have been teaching English since 2011. I completed my CELTA in 2010 at International House Wroclaw, Poland. I got into teaching all because of a conversation I had with a Ukrainian guy in an Irish pub called O'Briens in Kyiv about football. This conversation changed from football to teaching and then to the English language... which I knew nothing about at the time, even though I am an English native speaker.

That conversation changed my life.

Over the last 12 years I have had more than 30 different nationalities in my classroom from Rio to Rome. I've worked and lived in Moscow, St.Petersburg, Gdansk, Warsaw, Donetsk, Kyiv and Lviv. When people ask what and who have you taught? It's easier to answer with what haven't I taught! I've taught everything from IELTS, FLYERS, KET, PET, FCE, CAE, OET, BEC to Business English, English for Football, even English for the Fashion Industry. All ages too, from little shits - only joking - to pensioners.

Things I like when I'm not in the classroom are, football, I support Arsenal, but here I support Legia and I try to go to the stadium at the weekend for the games. Food, I love food, I have a sweet tooth and my big belly reflects how much I like it. Zurek is my favourite soup, and I DO like pierogi if you were wondering. ... Film and TV is another thing I'm a big fan of. If I ever have to recommend a film, I always say Incendies and if anyone asks for a good series to watch, then I always say Gomorrah. Both are in foreign languages - not English. Talking about foreign languages....

Sadly for me, I don't speak any other languages. ANGIELSKI, INGLESE, англійський, английский. Yeah, I might know a few simple polite phrases in Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian and yeah, I know how to read a menu, but that's all. Bad for me, but good for you as you will be forced to only speak English when we have our lessons.

That's enough about me for now, we'll find out all about each other during the course of our classes.

Hope to speak to you soon!

Cheers
Luke

Frequently asked questions

  • Where are you from?
I am from Torquay which is in the south west of England. It is also home of the famous writer Agatha Christie
  • Are you a REAL teacher?
I am indeed a real teacher of English as a Foreign Language and not just a 'native speaker'. I am a qualified language teacher.
  • Can we have a face to face lesson?
If you are in Lviv, Ukraine then YES. Right now, I am based in Lviv and teach lessons individually, in groups, and in-company. Find out more here
  • Do you teach British English?
I am from England, so naturally my usage of English is British English. You might use more American English words than British English words, but this won't be a problem for our communication. It's highly likely I will be able to give you both a British English word and then reference its usage in American English too.
  • Why should I choose you to be my teacher?
Good question. I will make you a better speaker and user of the English language. I will also build your confidence, and make you feel comfortable speaking English. If you are a Polish, Ukrainian or Russian speaker then I will also make sure you lose your bad habits, and highlight the commonly made mistakes you make as I specialise in working with students from these countries.
  • Can I get a free lesson?
I don't offer free lessons, but the first lesson is always discounted. If you'd like to talk to me before you decide you can email, call, or voice message me. I will always reply.
  • Why did you choose to be a teacher?
Honestly, I didn't choose to be a teacher, I just fell into it. I had a conversation one day that started off about football and then turned to the English language. That conversation changed my life.
  • What do you like to do in your free time?
I am a big fan of football, so I enjoy watching football. I support Arsenal. I used to play, but I'm getting older... and fatter... and the recovery time takes at least 2 days after a game of football. Aside from football I am keen on film and tv as well as travel just like everyone else.
  • How long have you been teaching?
At the time of writing this, I have been teaching for 9 years. During that time I have taught students from more than 25 different countries. I have also taught in Poland, Ukraine, Russia, and of course England
